As Kitchener continues to grow and prosper, it's important to have someone who truly connects with residents.
"A passionate commitment to Kitchener"
is a long standing maxim of the McCrea family! I was born and raised in Ward 7, with generations on both sides deeply rooted in Kitchener for the past 100 years.
A love of hockey runs deep in this city. Many of you may remember my father, Jim “Chipper” McCrea, one of the stars of the Kitchener Rangers during the 1960s. My dad went on to raise a family, run a successful sports business and devoted considerable time to coaching and volunteering in youth sports. The Five Point Grocery was owned and operated in Kitchener by the Izmas, my grandparents. Many of you will recall that business serving residents for well over 30 years. Izma Green, a mixed-income apartment complex, now stands in that very same location.
My wife Maureen and I have raised two children in this ward and I care about our community. It’s in my DNA to continue giving back, and I possess the experience to support the residents of our ward.
With my experience as an owner/operator of local businesses, I know what it means to work hard, be fiscally responsible and execute plans which lead to successful outcomes. I have owned and operated a national sales and distribution company for the past 26 years. During that time I also owned a prominent local M&M Meat Shop. I have managed, led and employed many Kitchener residents and coached numerous young athletes through my volunteer work in youth sports. Small businesses need support in our community and I know firsthand how difficult and rewarding it is to run your own business.
To truly know community, you must give back. I have regularly volunteered in youth sport coaching and youth mentoring, as my father and my father’s father did before me. During the pandemic, my family and I spent several months volunteering at the Waterloo Region Food Bank to support our community’s most vulnerable through tough times. It was this experience that solidified my desire to run for City Councillor of Ward 7 and support our community.
Whether it’s through regular community meetings, door to door discussions, or your feedback through social media, I want to engage with all residents and listen to what matters to you. Your opinions are important information, which will help to shape these priorities and in gaining the support of local leaders.
My priorities are:
TOGETHER WE CAN BUILD UPON OUR CITY'S FOUNDATION OF SUCCESS AND CONTRIBUTE TO AN EVEN BETTER KITCHENER.
